IN ORDER TO CREATE REAL IMPACT THAT WOULD BENEFIT AND ENGAGE THE THREE MUNICIPALITIES, WE NEEDED TO CREATE A PROJECT THAT WOULD HAVE A TERRITORIAL APPROACH. NOT ONLY ARE CLEAR ACTIONS LIKE FOOD WASTE REDUCTION REQUIRED, BUT WE ALSO HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL STAKEHOLDERS ARE ENGAGED, INFORMED AND MOVING IN THE SAME DIRECTION.

HOW CAN WE HELP DECISION MAKERS, FOOD AND BEVERAGE PROFESSIONALS AND CITIZENS IN THE HAUT-PLATEAU TO BECOME AWARE OF THE IMPACT OF FOOD AND TO TAKE ACTION ON IT? WELL, BY UNDERSTANDING THEIR NEEDS AND MOTIVATIONS AND THEN OFFERING SOLUTIONS SPECIFICALLY ADAPTED TO THEM. 

 IN LINE WITH OUR RESILIENCE FRAMEWORK, A THREE PHASE STRATEGY WAS PROPOSED. A FIRST BENCHMARKING PHASE, A SECOND PROJECT PLANNING PHASE, AND FINALLY THE THIRD, THE ACTION AND IMPLEMENTATION PHASE, WHERE WE GET TO THE NITTY GRITTY. 
 
THE WHOLE PROCESS LED TO THE CREATION OF “THE POWER OF THE PLATE” OR “LE POUVOIR DE L’ASSIETTE” AS WE SAY IN FRENCH, A FOOD SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT WITH A TERRITORIAL APPROACH. IT INCLUDES A FOODWASTE ANALYSIS WITH A RETIREMENT HOME AND A DAYCARE CENTER, FOOD WASTE REDUCTION SOLUTION WITHIN THE COMMUNITY,A THREE MONTH PLANETARY HEALTH PROGRAMME FOR THE CITIZENS, COLLABORATIVE WORKSHOPS AND RAISING AWARENESS AMONG THE DIFFERENT AUDIENCES.

THE IMPACT

THE REAL ACTION HAS JUST BEGUN, AND THE (HOPEFULLY) BIG IMPACT NUMBERS WILL BE PRESENTED AT THE END OF 2023. THIS FAR, 15 BUSINESSES AND PUBLIC INSTIUTIONS HAVE GOTTEN INVOLVED IN THE PROJECT, 3 FOOD WASTE ANALYSIS DEVICES BEEN INSTALLED, 4 FAMILIES HAVE TAKEN PART IN THE PLANETARY HEALTH PROGRAMME AND THE PROJECT HAS BEEN WELL RECEIVED BY THE LOCAL PRESS.
